Orange Julius

I love Christmas traditions.  Growing up I looked forward to all of our usual activities and treats.  I really love traditions in general.  My husband and I are slowly developing new traditions of our own, but I also inherited some of his family’s traditions when we got married.  One of their food traditions is Orange Julius for breakfast Christmas morning.  This is one we plan to follow even on years we aren’t with his family.DSC_1682How was your Christmas morning?  Our was delightful.  It was filled with the antics of nieces and nephews.  Christmas is always better when there are little ones around… the chaos they cause is part of the experience:-)  It was wonderful to have a day completely devoted to family and relaxing together.  DSC_1694Last year I made us Orange Julius for breakfast Christmas morning to carry on my husband’s tradition and it was the first time I had ever made some myself.  It is actually super easy.  It is so easy in fact that I don’t know if I could ever justify buying one from a store.  Not only is it quick and easy, but it tastes amazing too.  I had forgotten how great these are (since it has been a whole year since we had them).  In fact we might have to make them one or two other times throughout the year.  Not too often where it no longer becomes special, but a few more times to enjoy the greatness.  DSC_0006A fun variety from the traditional flavor is to throw a little cocoa powder into the blender and add a chocolate twist.  Everybody loves chocolate orange, right?DSC_1700

Orange Julius (serves 2-3)

6 oz orange concentrate

1 orange, peeled

1 C almond milk

1 C water

1 1/2 t vanilla

1/4 C agave

10-12 ice cubes

1. Place all ingredients into blender and mix until drink is smooth and creamy.  Add an            orange slice to the glass if you want to feel a little fancy.

This is so easy to make, right?  A delicious tradition that takes only minutes to put together.  That is a definite keeper in my book.DSC_1721DSC_1720DSC_1705
