Vanilla Almond Granola

I had no idea making my own granola would be this easy.  It took me 30 minutes, including baking time and cost me practically nothing.  I love granola, but rarely buy it because it is ridiculously expensive (at least I think it is).  This was my first time making it so I am sure my granola abilities will continue to improve as I experiment with it more.DSC_0452 Do you know one of the many amazing things about granola?  There are endless possibilities of what you could create.  I already have four or five flavor variations that I want to try.  I’ll let you know soon if they turn out as well as they sound:-)DSC_0459So when making the granola I added the dry ingredients together first.  Then I added my wet ingredients and mixed everything all together.  I sampled it a little as any chef should;-) It was pretty good raw so I was excited to see how it turned out once it had been baked. DSC_0465Pour your mixture onto a cookie sheet and bake it at 325 F for 20-25 minutes.  Stir the granola half way through and then check it periodically to make sure it doesn’t burn.  I had my oven set to 350 F and the edge of my granola pile got a little crispy… oops:-) Despite the burnt fringe, the final product was still pretty darn good.  I have to keep telling myself not to eat it all today, but to spread it out over the next little while.  We will see how that goes:-)DSC_0466Here is the recipe!  Enjoy!  Have fun!  Create!  See how easy and cheap it is too make this on your own.  Buying granola in the store will be a thing of the past.

Vanilla Almond Granola

4 C oats

¼ C sliced almonds

½ t cinnamon

¼ t nutmeg

A few pinches of salt

¼ C almond milk

¼ C olive oil

½ C agave

1 t vanilla (pure, not imitation)

  1. Set oven to 325 F.  Put all dry ingredients into a bowl and stir together.  Add the wet ingredients and mix thoroughly.  Pour mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with tinfoil.
  2. Cook for 10-12 minutes and then stir.  Cook for another 10-12 minutes, checking occasionally to make sure it doesn’t burn.

DSC_0474DSC_0478Wanna know my favorite way to eat granola?  Simply granola and milk (almond milk), just like cereal.  Though back when I ate dairy yogurt and granola was a pretty close second.  What is your favorite way to eat granola?DSC_0484DSC_0493

    • I get mine at Winco. It lowers the cost a bit. There are also wholesalers that you can buy them in bulk. It costs more upfront but you save money in the end. I think Winco is still a better deal though.
